Are you trying to get a chipped or decayed tooth fixed, but don’t want the cost or wait time for a traditional crown? Are you looking for an option that can blend in with your other teeth and look completely natural? If you answered yes, you might be looking for a dental bond, which is so named because the material bonds with the tooth.
What is it used for?
It is one of the least expensive and easiest dental procedures. The composite resin that is used can be shaped like the surrounding teeth and polished until it matches them. This procedure is often used for cosmetic purposes to improve upon the aesthetics of a chipped or damaged tooth. It can also be used to lengthen or to change the shape of a tooth.
How is it done?
There is little to no preparation, and sedation is often not needed unless you’re filling a decayed tooth. Our dentist will choose a resin that closely matches the shade of your teeth. Dr. Janette Carroll will then abrade the tooth slightly. A liquid will then be applied to lightly coat the tooth that will help the bonding material stick. Then the resin can be applied, molded and smoothed until the correct shape is achieved. An ultra-violent light or laser will be used to harden the material. This process could take 30 minutes per tooth, so if you have more than one you may need to make additional appointments.
